There is no denying that I have neglected my blog. The last post I published having accompanied my pattern release some release some 7 months ago (yikes, where did all those months go?!).

I should be honest, I have written another blog post since then. It is finished, complete with pictures, and has been since mid-October. I have repeatedly attempted to, but I just have not been able to bring myself to change the privacy setting to ‘public’. I have a complicated relationship with my blog…I’m working on it.

Aside from this, I also found 2017 to be a real juggle.  Being a working mom is hardcore. Being a stay-at-home mom is too of course ( probably more so) but for different reasons. Some days I really felt like I was nuts to be taking on so much, and that I was the crappest parent in the whole world for doing this with my ‘free’ time.

So, after all these months I am really excited to finally present to the (sewing) world the fruits of my labour and partial reason for my absence; my new pattern The Calyer Pants.

These pants have quite literally been my work/ life uniform since I finished the prototype in early 2017. I must have about 11 pairs of them by now (I really have lost count), and some weeks I wear a pair EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I have found that they miraculously manage to somehow look super polished while also being ridiculously comfortable.

The pattern comes in two views; a pleated and a flat front version, both of which sit just a cm or 2 below the natural waist. There is just something about high-waisted pants for me; they have the highly-coveted ability to make me feel a little more ‘put together’, and I need all the help that I can get in that department! Mornings generally feel like a war zone in my household and, despite waking up at 5am (and being restricted to 2 minute showers thanks to Cape Town experiencing its worst drought in recorded history), between dressing the kids, packing their lunch, (hopefully remembering that I too will require lunch) and cleaning the house, I seldom have time to spare a second thought to how I am going to look even vaguely presentable for my work day.

This is where the Calyer Pants have been a game changer for me, having somewhat assuaged this morning mania by offering me a go-to (pull-on!) wardrobe staple that feels effortlessly office appropriate.

The beauty of these pants is that they are a weekend winner too, their comfort and nonrestrictive fit making them perfect for chasing toddlers and for lounging around the house (this last part is theoretical, I have not being doing much ‘lounging’ over the past few years).

Black back

I poured a lot of love into this pattern (and its instructions) and I really hope that that you guys will love these pants as much as I do! You can learn more information about this pattern here.

If you think you may like to buy this pattern the you can find it in my Etsy shop.

You can check out some of the pants made by my testers here:

A lot have people have asked me where the name for my pattern comes from or what “Calyer” is. I wish I had a really cool story to explain it, but really it is just the name of a song by one of my favourite bands; The Beach Fossils.
